The Town of Lysander Public Safety Fire Training Division recently
conducted the New York State Firefighter II Training course that
concluded with a graduation ceremony on Tuesday June 26th. Members from
the Baldwinsville, Belgium-Cold Springs, Cody, Lakeside, Lysander,
Phoenix, Plainville and Warners Fire Departments participated with
Onondaga County Fire Instructors Paul Becker, Tony McIntyre, Mike Pitts,
Tim Wolsey and Jay Woodruff presenting the program. Assistant
instructors included John Delahunt, Jeffrey Buck and Scott Tice.
The Firefighter II course consisted of 30 hours of instruction in the
following subject areas based on National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)
Firefighter II standards and the Thompson-Delmar Fire Training
curriculum:
- Advanced Firefighter Skills
- Fire Hose Testing
- Fire Hydrant Flow Testing
- Pre-incident Planning
- Initial Company Response Operations
- Firefighting Strategy & Tactics
- Vehicle Rescue Operations
Students are required to pass both written and practical skills
examination in order to successfully complete the course and receive New
York State Firefighter certification.
Belgium-Cold Springs firefighter Justin Woodruff received the class
valedictorian award and Cody firefighter Dennis Richardson received the
class salutatorian award both for academic excellence and achievement.
